Gallup: "Twenty-three percent of Americans say they are satisfied with the way things are going in the United States, with 75% dissatisfied. That is the same as the average for 2012 to date, and indicates that last month's slightly higher 28% satisfaction rating was not the beginning of sustained improvement."

On May 21, 1881, Clara Barton and several supporters establish the American Red Cross in Washington, DC. Barton had learned of the Swiss-inspired aide movement while traveling in Europe after the Civil War and upon her return home, she worked for the advancement of the American Red Cross and the Geneva Convention, which was ratified in 1882.
